Matthew Sharp’s Rough Magic | the cellist-cum-baritone performs | LIVESTREAM FROM LOCKDOWN

As part of our fundraiser for the Felix Project, which is supplying food to groups throughout the COVID-19 crisis to groups including the homeless and NHS staff, cellist and baritone Matthew Sharp took us on a whirlwind tour of musical styles and genres, from Coldplay to Charlie Chaplin, Piazzolla to Erasure, Bach to Jeff Buckley on Monday May 11th.

Matthew Sharp is a British artist renowned for his multifaceted talents as a cellist, baritone, actor, and director. He has performed worldwide, including solo appearances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Sharp has also taken on principal roles for Opera North and the Royal Opera House. His versatility extends to acting, with performances at the Young Vic and National Theatre Studio. As a director, he has worked with the BBC and Opera North.

Throughout his career, Sharp has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, from composer Sir John Tavener to actress Marta Eggert and playwright Caryl Churchill. His own music and theatre works have been showcased at major festivals globally, reflecting his commitment to innovative and interdisciplinary art. Sharp has premiered over sixty world premieres and recorded for labels such as Sony, EMI, Decca, Naxos, Somm, NMC, Avie, and Whirlwind.

In addition to his performance career, Sharp is a dedicated educator. He teaches, gives masterclasses, and runs workshops worldwide, inspiring and enhancing the lives and performances of those around him.
