As part of our fundraiser for the Felix Project, which is supplying food to groups throughout the COVID-19 crisis to groups including the homeless and NHS staff, on Monday May 25th 2020, versatile violinist Thomas Gould performed a programme fusing the old with the new, with repertoire including: Telemann’s Fantasia No. 1, Largo, Nico Muhly’s Drones & Violin, Part One, Telemann’s Fantasia No. 1, Allegro, Nico Muhly’s Drones & Violin, Part Three and Agustin Barrios Mangoré’s Una limosnita por el amor de Dios (El Ultimo Tremolo) (transcr Thomas Gould).

Thomas Gould is a highly versatile musician known for his work across classical, contemporary, and jazz genres. Born in 1983 in London, he trained at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Sheila Nelson and, later, György Pauk. Over the years, he has performed as a soloist with major orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the LA Phil New Music Group. His expressive playing style and willingness to push the boundaries of traditional violin performance have earned him a strong reputation in the music world.

Beyond his classical career, Thomas Gould is also known for his work with contemporary composers such as John Adams, Thomas Adès, and Max Richter. He has collaborated with jazz musicians like Brad Mehldau and Jacob Collier, demonstrating a rare ability to blend genres seamlessly. As the former leader of Britten Sinfonia, he played a crucial role in shaping the ensemble’s innovative programming. His recordings and live performances consistently showcase his technical brilliance and artistic curiosity.
