Lewis Wright is a vibraphonist, drummer and composer based in London, who first took a shine to the instrument at a percussion workshop for youngsters in Norwich. He was inspired by his father, who was a percussionist and producer, along with many artists he heard on recordings growing up.
Lewis Wright has performed at venues such as the Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall, and has been a featured soloist with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra. He has also worked with artists including Melody Gardot, Michael Kiwanuka, Joss Stone and many others, as well as composing for his own solo projects and Empirical. Equally at home on vibraphone and drums, he has played in a variety of musical situations from jazz to soul, contemporary classical to film scores.
He released his debut album, Duets, on Signum Classics in 2018. The album, featuring duets for vibraphone and piano all composed by Wright, also features virtuoso pianist Kit Downes, whom Wright has known and performed with since childhood. The album also marked Wright’s first solo venture as a composer.
The Colour of Intention is his latest album.
