What is Gingerline? | Our guide to the immersive dining experience

Firstly, let’s get one thing straight: Gingerline is not your typical night out. Want yet another mundane burger house that can’t even remember your hatred for pickles? This isn’t the place for you.

An immersive dining adventure where performance, storytelling, and fine dining fuse into a theatrical explosion of flavor and fantasy, the London-based Gingerline has built a cult following with its secret locations, mysterious narratives, and wildly imaginative set designs. Every event is a sensory journey where food becomes part of the story, and guests step into roles in the unfolding drama.

How it all began

Born out of passions for food, performance, and creativity, Gingerline was founded in 2007 by the dynamic duo Suz Mountford and Kerry Adamson. Starting as a series of intimate, pop-up supper clubs, it was intended to surprise and delight members of the public with secret, one-night-only dining experiences. Little did they know, they were inventing a new genre now widely recognized as immersive dining.

By 2015, Gingerline had evolved into a multi-room dining spectacle. By 2019, the shows were being licensed internationally, from Shanghai to Seoul, and in 2023, Gingerline returned to London with a new wave of thrilling performances.

What are performances like?

One moment you’re an aristocrat in a Victorian parlour, the next you’re battling extraterrestrial forces while hurtling through a wormhole into an intergalactic banquet hall. At Gingerline, its safe to say reality bends.

Parallel universes, bizarre gameshows, and dreamlike environments are all built around a fine-dining experience where every bite has a story of its own. Actors serve as both waiters and performers, with the food itself becoming a narrative device — part prop, part performance, and entirely delicious. Chekhov’s gun eat your heart out!

From gothic Christmas feasts to futuristic food laboratories, no two performances are ever alike. Take Chambers of Flavour, for example — a five-course journey through surreal, interactive worlds, or TV Dinners, a satirical gameshow-meets-banquet that leaves guests laughing, thinking, asking for more and refusing to switch the channel over.

What makes Gingerline different?

With a love for the whacky and extravagant, Gingerline doesn’t just pair food with theatre — it reimagines both. Long before “immersive dining” became a buzzword, Gingerline was leading the charge. Their events are completely secret until the day of the show and they blur the lines between performer and audience, plate and prop, storytelling and sustenance. This isn’t just dinner. It’s an expedition, often turning the diners themselves into performers.

When are they next performing?

Gingerline’s upcoming 2025 season includes a brand-new evolution of Chambers of Flavour, along with several mysterious productions still in development. Dates and locations remain hush-hush, but fans can expect ticket announcements very soon. For updates, you can visit the Gingerline website.
